What is difference between a BS in Computer Information Systems and a BS in Computer Science? If I major in CIS, I will be able to easily minor in computer science. Would I be able to get the same jobs with these majors? Do you feel that these majors will become outdated quickly? Right now, I know I am majoring in Finance and minoring in Computer Science. I would pursue CS or CIS as a second major. Thanks in advance for your input.

BS in Computer Science is more computer intensive than BS in CIS. CIS is more business oriented. I don’t know about the program in the school which you are attending or you plan to attend; but in the school that I went to, CIS students didn’t need to take much programming classes nor did they have to take any computer hardware classes. While the Comp. Sci. students, which I was one of them, had to take many programming classes and a computer hardware class.

I have to write a paper for math class for a part of finial exam. Its about how can I use math in major which is computer information system I want to find were can I find and article about how they use math in computer information system jobs.

Math is used in all type of areas in IT from sizing a server to determining the IP sub-net. There is also the fact that math teaches analytical thinking which helps with programing and trouble shooting.

It is not either/or. The decision to adopt a system is made by a consensus of managers. While the business manager makes the decision based upon the needs of his/her area, the IT manager must make the decision based upon the company’s resources, equipment capability, and technical expertise. A system will not work unless both areas agree that it will work.

I’m in grade 12 and I want to know what education I need to get into an IT career.

I live in Toronto, Canada and there are only 2 Universities (outside the city) that offer a Bachelor of Information Technology.

There are three colleges in my area that offer diplomas for Systems Technology, Systems Technician, Information Systems Business Analyst, and Networking.

Is it better to get a diploma from college or a degree to get started in information technology?
Is there any other way of starting an IT career?

get certifications first… then worry about getting a degree… seriously a well certified guy is almost always better and more valuable then a guy with a diploma… what part of IT do you want to get into? it really is a broad field.
start by studying for a+ then decide if you want to do windows admin network admin DBA (oracle sql etc) or development or whatever… there are certs for all of these paths… just go down the path and you will do ok…
