Letting Agent recently disclosed my personal financial information to a friend. What about data protection?

Posted by admin on February 18th, 2010 and filed under data information system | 3 Comments »

I’ve been searching for a flat recently. A friend and I have found a place through a letting agency. Whilst doing credit checks they disclosed the details of my fathers salary to my future flatmate (of no relation to me). My flatmate phone me and told me what they said, naturally I was furious and phoned the agency to complain. What relation does this have to the Data Protection Act and is there any penalty system involved / anyone I can contact to complain?

It’s an offence under the Data Protection Act 1998. The enforcement is done via the Information Commissioner and all details are available on the website (link below).

I must point out, though, that this is low level stuff as far as the ICO is concerned and there is unlikely to be the swingeing prosecution that such action deserves. They will, however, still follow up any complaint.

How should data be graphed when missing information is purposely supplied?

Posted by admin on February 6th, 2010 and filed under data information system | 1 Comment »

graphing data for a systems dynamic research and our research provided data that didn’t include weekends… just the behavior on weekdays, how can we adjust the data to fill in missing information we need to complete the graph? weekends should be considered too, so we cant take it out of the graph..

If it’s a natural process, take moving average.
E.g. Saturday is average of Thu, Fri and Mon, and Sun is average of Fri, Mon, Tue.

If there is any way that humans are involved in determining your data, you really cannot anything, as human activity patters are very different on weekends – people eat, sleep, entertain and work in a completely different way.

Whats the easiest way to move all data from an old computer to a brand new system?

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010 and filed under data information system | 4 Comments »

Im buying a new computer and will be wiping my old computer clean after transferring favorites information to the new computer system. Can an average geek do this themselves?

    Hi
Well you can either put the old drive into the new puter (and set as a slave drive ) while you transfer that way or try a Sumvision USB Data Cable .. If you’re from the UK follow the URL below :) hope this helps !
