Can anybody give my some real example of information system?
It is taught that Information System concerning with providing information to support people taking action. But this meaning is too general for me. So, if TV, Radio also information system? because it helps us taking actions too. Thus can anyone explain me? I really appreciate your helping me!!
According to Reynolds and Stair, in "Fundamentals of Information Systems", an information system is "…a set of interrelated components that collect, manipulate, store and disseminate data and information, and provide a feedback mechanism to meet an objective." An IS can be manual or computerized. For example, you could personally keep track of the retail price data of a specific model of tv over the course of a year, and graph it on a sheet manually, and then use that info to make decisions on when the cheapest time of year to buy a tv is – that’s an information system. You could also use a computer to do that – also an information system.
So is TV or radio an information system? Well, does it collect, manipulate, store, disseminate data, and provide a feedback mechanism? Not really, no. But could you use tv and radio broadcasts as input into your own personal information system? Yes. So to me, they could be one component of an IS, but not an entire IS.
