What is the difference between a degree in Computer Information Systems and System Engineering?
If it matters I’m attending the University of West Florida. I know that they both relate to programming, and SE has a lot more calculus and physics than CIS, but what kind of jobs would you get with both, and the related?
They are entirely different. "Systems Engineering" is true Engineering, and has to do with incorporating mechanical/electrical apparatus and mathematical techniques to to solve some Engineering applications. CIS is just about Computer systems (hardware and software) selection and maintenance — often computer systems in a business. CIS is much more routine.
University of West Florida does not have a Systems Engineering degree.
UWF does have "Information Engineering Technology", but this is not TAC/ABET-accredited.
UWF’s Computer Science degrees (including CIS) are not CAC/ABET-accredited.
The first is more about computers, the latter more about engineering overall.
