Whats the difference between computer science degree and computer information system ?

What knowledge you will gain from each, and which one is more marketable and popular in the working field
Can a computer information system get the same jobs as Computer Science ?

Computer Information Systems (this degree comes in other names but we’ll just use this one) is going to teach you things like Networking, Web Design, maybe a little Programming, etc… it varies actually. In short you have the chance to learn about many types of software programs, e.g. you could take Windows courses, PC Repair courses, Networking courses, Programming language courses, etc.

Computer Science on the other hand will teach you about more of the theory… e.g. how transistors and the computer chips on board work… you might learn about logic gates and the parameters of Digital Systems. (I don’t know how to explain it much better, I’m not a Comp Sci major)

Oh and either way, with either degree you’ll still get a job somewhere. Trust me. I get calls all the time for jobs, and all I have are A.S.s.

EDIT: Yes you can get the same jobs with both degrees… it happens a lot actually. It’s funny, at one of my earlier IT jobs from about 2 years back I was in a department of 10 and I was the ONLY one with an IT degree (my boss included) until one of my supervisors earned his BS in MIS. But we all did the same work pretty much.

the computer science degree has more math and science I know for sure while information systems has more of a focus on information systems..lol that didn’t sound very specific how I explained it. but here; go to a college website and go to the academic apartments. look at the classes that go with each of those degrees and you’ll see just from that what you can expect. also look on the descriptions of the degree at the college too. a computer science degree seems like it equips one with more knowledge but if you want to avoid the science and math to a heavier extent then i’d go with the pc info systems. but with both I believe you’ll be learning some generally good and similar knowledge.

I don’t have a Bachelors in Comp Sci but I have two A.S. degrees in IT and 5 IT certifications at the moment.
