Hows life as a US Navy Information System Technology?
I am currently 17, and am thinking of a career in the US Navy. I wanted to apply for a position in the IST field. Can someone that is currently an information system technician tell me their experiences, and how life is as an IST? How much training, education, pay, time on shore, time off shore etc are there? Also how difficult can it be to get an officer position within the information system technology field.
Thank you
The rating is actually called IT, not IST.
Training, education, etc, are all handled on the 1st link below, along with sea-shore rotation. Pay will be the same as any other Navy rate.
As far as promotion to officer, promotion is available through either the STA-21 program, or the LDO/CWO program. ITs are fairly competitve for officer positions, with at least four designators they can feed into the LDO/CWO program-719X and 742X (CWO), and 619X and 642X (LDO).
