what is mean by the word SYSTEM in Information Technology?
In layman’s terms it means your computer. Many people use the word system and computer interchangeably.
The term system, on a more technical level, refers to the whole thing for example all life on earth is called the eco system, the entire amount of software required to make your computer work is called the operating system, the whole collection of nerves that make up your brain is called the central nervous system. The word system goes a little beyond the total amount though, it also implies functionality so system describes the complete sum of all the components required to make the whole thing function. So for your computer, the system means your operating system, your memory, your CPU heatsink and fan, motherboard, and all your periferals required to make the thing work.
Here’s a part of a dictionary definition which sums it up better than I can.
1 : a regularly interacting or interdependent group of items forming a unified whole.
A system is a collection of inter related components that work together to achieve a specific goal or to perform a specific task.
